CARTO Attribution

We use a variety of technologies and service providers to deliver the CARTO experience. When customers use these services, they must provide attribution to both CARTO and any appropriate provider. Proper attribution is required for every CARTO plan.

1. Data

Our Professional Services & Support teams can help you accelerate projects, drawing on their expertise in app development, design, spatial data science and GIS.

i. The data customers add to their CARTO account is the customer's responsibility. Customers are responsible for ensuring that they have a right to share data before doing so.

ii. The Data Observatory ("DO") is a collection of data sources that can help customers enhance the maps they create with the CARTO Platform. When using any data from the Data Observatory, the applicable EULA is made available through the Data Observatory.

2. Geocoding

CARTO uses a number of providers for geocoding services. Depending on account details, and how our customers use the geocoding services, they may use one or more of the following providers:

i. GeoNames (under Creative Commons Attribution 3.0);
ii. Natural Earth
iii. TomTom
iv. HERE
v. Mapbox
vi. Google

3. Icons

Customers can choose from several icon sets to style markers or patterns in the CARTO Platform. Such icons or images may come from the sources below:

i. Map Pins

ii. Maki Icons

I. An open source icon set from Mapbox

iii. SimpleCircle Places

I. A set of map icons created by Simpleicon

4. Isolines/Isochrones and Routing

CARTO provides both isoline/isochrones and routing services courtesy of Tomtom, HERE or Mapbox. If you have questions about which isoline routing and isochrone provider applies to your plan, you can reach out to our customer support team.
